The Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets sponsors the Snapshot Week promotion every August. The goal is to celebrate and promote Maine farmers’ markets through the medium of photography and fun activities at participating markets.
This year the Federation is encouraging posting of photos at market using hashtags: #MEsnapshotweek, #uniquemainefarms, #whoknewitgrewinMaine, #marketkids, #MEmarketstories
FACEBOOK: Find us at @BelfastFarmersMarket and tag @Mainefarersmarkets
INSTAGRAM: @belfastfarmersmarket, and you can tag our location too!
MORE ON HASHTAGS and SOCIAL SHARING
#ilovemainemarkets and #farmersmarketesfeedme are year round tags that help spread the word about Maine’s wealth of farmers markets.
The Federation also enlists the help of participating markets to take and submit photos of activity at market, for use in the Federation’s promotional materials. Don’t be surprised to find a member asking you for permission to use a photo of you and your family and friends this coming week at markets throughout the state.
We’re pulling together some activities at our markets this week. Big Salad Bowl Taste of the Market
You’re invited to a Big Salad Bowl Taste of the Market on Friday, August 4th, from 11am to 1pm.
Our members are bringing to the table an assortment of tidbits to sample on a bed of fresh local greens, and some unique dressings to top it all off. You’ll start out with a small bowl of greens, then pass along the table and sprinkle a sampling of fresh local goodies onto your salad. Word has it there will be cheese crumbles, croutons, grilled meats, chopped veggies, pasta, and for dressings: humus and green goddess versions and much more, made or grown by our members.
We know this is going to be delicious, but please, only one bowl per person! Plenty of other eatables for purchase market-wide to round out your lunch.
Suecakes! GLUTEN, EGG AND DAIRY FREE ALTERNATIVE AT MARKET
Don’t be fooled by the understated display; there are goodies in that case…
Suecakes! offers an alternative spread of sweet and savory foods at market, and at their juice bar just off Beaver Street in downtown Belfast. A couple of weeks ago, I asked for a description of some of their offerings. Here is just a sampling of what Sue had to offer that day:
Spicy Chocolate Donuts, Strawberry Vanilla Donuts, Chocolate Whoopie Pies, Strawberry Rhubarb Whoopie Pies, Coconut Lime Cracked Black Pepper Whoopie Pies, Espresso Chip Cookies, Blondie Brownies
Vegan! Suecakes! uses organic locally sourced ingredients when available.
